Since 1981, the family has wondered what happened to Asbjørn Foldahl. Now they have received an answer.
On August 1, the remains of a dead person were found in Lake Holden in Steinkjer municipality.
Now the police state that the remains were Asbjørn Foldahl, who disappeared in September 1981, 62 years old.
Foldahl was reported missing after a fishing trip in the lake. He and an acquaintance fell out of the boat. The acquaintance was found dead after the accident, but not Foldahl.
Asbjørn Foldahl had been missing since 1981. It has now been confirmed that he was found dead in Lake Holden earlier this month.

When the remains were found earlier this month, police investigated whether they belonged to Foldahl and another person who has also disappeared in Lake Holden. That was in 1998.
Investigation leader Leif Gundersen tells Trønderavisa that shortly after the discovery, they had a good indication of who they had found, but that they have waited to publish this until they received final confirmation using DNA analysis.
– During the autopsy, ID papers were found on the remains, including a bank card that was easy to read, issued to Asbjørn Foldahl. It gave a good indication of what the final answer would be, Gundersen says warn.
He says that Foldahl’s daughter is relieved to have finally received an answer to what happened to her father.
– She is happy that her father has been found, even though it has been a very long time. She expresses that the family feels a form of relief, Gundersen tells the newspaper.
