“Fortnite” makers are pushing into the cinema: This is their first film – Kino News

Since “The Mandalorian” we have known that the Unreal Engine developed by “Fortnite” studio Epic Games can also help with films and series. Now the studio is investing in a film for the first time – about King, God and Hero Gilgamesh.

Epic Games

Epic Games has set up a $ 100 million fund to support projects (primarily games) that use the company’s Unreal Engine. Now the game manufacturer is investing loudly behind the mega hit “Fornite” Deadline the first time part of this money went into a movie.

“Gilgamesh” is the name of the animated project for which Epic Games is teaming up with several Argentine animation studios and director Tomás Lipgot (“The Desert”).

This is “Gilgamesh”

As the title suggests, the focus is on Gilgamesh, who is said to have ruled as the alleged Sumerian king around 5,000 years ago. It is not entirely certain whether Gilgamesh, who is also revered as a god and celebrated as a hero, really lived, and if so, how much of the stories about him are true.

In the animation film, Gilgamesh is supposed to be shown as a demigod who strives for immortality and befriends a wild man named Enkidu. In the works of the so-called Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu was created by the gods to see Gilgamesh as a friend.

In a statement, those responsible behind the project also declare that they want to show that 3D animation technology, and especially the Unreal Engine, can not only deliver colorful characters and entertainment, but is also ideally suited to such mystical stories about larger-than-life characters from ancient times to tell.

The studio even published a first small preview of the project a few months ago, which gives an impression of the (but not yet final) look.
