Former protodeacon Andrei Kuraev announced that he had left Russia for the Czech Republic.
“My Moscow world is destroyed. To some extent, the pain of lonely old age can be softened by immersion in the atmosphere of a happy Prague childhood and the understanding that here my parents spent the happiest years of their lives,” wrote he is on the telegram channel.
According to Kuraev, he plans to give lectures and public meetings in Europe. “So this is labor migration. I hope it’s seasonal,” he added.
Andrey Kuraev is one of the most frequently quoted clergy in the media. His public statements have repeatedly conflicted with the official position of the Russian Orthodox Church.
In August 2022, Kuraev was fined 30 thousand rubles on charges of “discrediting” the army due to a LiveJournal post in which he discussed events in Ukraine and the Civil War in Russia. In April 2023, Patriarch Kirill deprived Kuraev of his church rank.
