Former MP Kalina Krumova-Zaharieva Opens Up about Being a Donor and Advocates for Reproductive Rights in Bulgaria

This Sunday, in front of Marijan Stankov – Mont Deux, former MP Kalina Krumova – Zaharieva admitted that she is a donor of genetic material.

“We need to talk more honestly about this topic. I believe that someone does not need to leave this world to give life. At the beginning of the year I froze my eggs because nature is unpredictable. I hope I don’t have to invitro but there are already women in their 30’s who have depleted ovarian reserve. After all, I’m 38 and it’s good to have insurance. I’m extremely grateful for this change in regulation. I want those women who are waiting to know that there is who to give them. There is no general waiting list. When I started doing surrogacy, I heard a very ugly question – why do you do it after you have a child. Is this normal? There are some people who like to go to charity events. Very often, if we look at the photos from these events, we will see that the menu on the tables, the jewelry and the outfits of the guests, far exceed the budgets that are sought for the given cause. For me, this is hypocrisy. Why are Bulgarian women with reproductive problems that need a surrogate mother, we make them feel like criminals and go to Ukraine to have a legal child. I urge them to tell their stories, because they are heroes, not criminals,” shared Zaharieva.

According to her, there are so many women in need of donors because prevention is not done. “It does not become clear in time that the woman has an exhausted ovarian reserve. Prevention should be a state policy. Doctors should say you should do this and that test,” commented the former MP. And she added that she does not regret being in politics.

“There is no bad experience, there are wrongly learned lessons. My mistake is that where I should have entered with the buttons, I touched with a velvet glove”, explained Kalina Krumova-Zaharieva.

She also commented on the frequent deaths in accidents involving drugged and drunk drivers.

“That day was the first day of school. Every year, on average, one classroom is left empty because of children who have died in accidents. We are no longer afraid that we might kill someone if we drink and drive, but that our car might be taken. What kind of thinking is this?” asked the former MP.

Kalina Zaharieva also shared more about her personal life during the interview.

“Bobby is like a rainbow to me. Like any normal family, we argue about things. There is no perfect couple,” she concluded.
