Hungary is ready to pay for Russian gas in rubles, and this will not be a violation of EU sanctions. This was stated by Foreign Minister Peter Siarto to reporters during the break of the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
“We have a decision to pay in rubles, which will allow us not to violate any sanctions, but at the same time guarantee gas supplies to Hungary. We will not allow the gas supply to Hungarian families to be jeopardized,” said Siarto, who posted a video of his speech. on Facebook.

The Minister also explained that this issue was discussed in recent days in technical talks between the Hungarian company CEEnergy and the Russian company Gazpromexport. The agreement, previously signed by them, allows for a change in the currency of payment for Russian gas supplies. According to Siarto, the payment will be made in euros to the account of the Hungarian company in Gazprombank and will be converted into rubles.
“Hungary will not stop gas supplies from Russia. Any attempt to put pressure on Europe leads to a lifting of Viktor Orban’s result. The Hungarians are disobedient,” former constitutional judge Georgi Markov told BNT.
