Former Liverpool support for Sparta? Certainly not. But it was hot

Slovak defender Martin Škrtel will not strengthen Sparta football. In an interview for the šport.sk server, he confirmed that he had received an offer from Letná, but would not accept it. Sparta was thinking of the former Liverpool player as a replacement for stopper David Hanck.

“Certainly not. It was hot, but I put it out,” Skrtel said. The former long-time Liverpool hitcher recently won the Turkish title with Basaksehir, where he came last September after his three years in Bergamo ended.

His contract ends in Basaksehir and he plans to either extend it or return to Slovakia after 16 years. “I also register interest from other clubs, from Slovakia and abroad. I am surprised who is still interested in me at my age. However, I will not do large experiments, football or private, as last summer,” said Škrtel, 35.

A possible replacement for Hanck? Sparta is said to attract the famous name, which shone in Liverpool

The former player of Trenčín, St. Petersburg or Fenerbahce Istanbul was supposed to be Sparta’s replacement for Hanck. The 22-year-old stopper proved himself during his one-year stay at Letná, but his eventual transfer from Fiorentina complicates high severance pay.
