Former International Referee Hassan Al-Behairi: His Career, Retirement, and Dedication to Serving Others

Al-Marsad newspaper: Former international referee Hassan Al-Behairi died today at the age of 66.

The late international referee had conducted a television interview a few days ago, during which he revealed the story of his retirement due to an arbitration error, and his dedication to washing the dead.

He said during his interview with Al-Ekhbariya channel before his death: “I am devoting my time now to serving the people. My pocket has no riyals in it. My balance is what I know, and by God I do not know it. I challenge his mother’s son to say that I took a riyal for myself, whether for the dead or not.”

He pointed out that he worked as an international referee for nearly 17 years, then he retired from arbitration, due to a decision not being counted in the Al-Ahly and Al-Nasr match, when an Al-Ahly player was obstructed by Al-Nasr’s goalkeeper and suffered a fracture. A foul was not counted against him and the player was not expelled.
