Former Belgian Senator Bribed by Chinese Official, Prime Minister Describes China as “Hostile Country

(Reuters, Brussels, 20th) The case of a former Belgian senator being bribed by an official from China’s Ministry of State Security has shocked the country’s political arena. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo today described China as a country that is “sometimes very hostile”.

Reuters reported that De Croo told two major Belgian newspapers, Le Soir and De Standaard: “We should not underestimate how much foreign powers dislike our democracy, our solidarity. .”

“Unlike Russia, China has not attacked our continent (Europe), but it is still a sometimes very hostile country. It should not be dismissed as irrelevant,” De Croo said.

He pointed out: “Belgian democracy is being betrayed. The Chinese are trying to buy influence in order to destabilize our democracy. This ‘Chinagate’ (Chinagate), maybe I should say Chinese interests, everything is presented to us In front of you.”

A joint investigation by the British Financial Times, French newspaper Le Monde and German Der Spiegel revealed last week that former members of the Belgian far-right Vlaams Belang party Congressman Frank Creyelman has been absorbed into China’s Ministry of State Security for at least the past three years.

After the scandal was exposed, the Flemish Interest Party announced the expulsion of Kreerman, and his “black history” of being friendly to totalitarian governments such as Russia and Syria was also revealed. It is reported that he is very friendly to the Russian regime and has been invited to Moscow many times.

The Financial Times reported that Chinese Ministry of State Security official Daniel Woo asked Krellman to influence discussions in Europe on China’s suppression of democracy in Hong Kong and its persecution of Uyghurs in Xinjiang. Daniel Wu also reportedly asked Krellman to help disrupt a meeting about Taiwan.

Dennis Wilder, a former CIA China analyst and current scholar at Georgetown University, said: “This reflects that China’s Ministry of National Security has always believed that the United States is behind the Hong Kong protests, and they are constantly looking for opportunities. Disrupting pro-Taiwan meetings and activities in third countries, and working to discredit those who report on human rights violations in Xinjiang.” Central News Agency (translation)
