Former ATP ace praises Roger Federer

Roger Federer has made millions of fans fall in love with his innate class and longevity. The former world No. 1 helped boost the popularity of tennis alongside his eternal rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

The last two seasons have given the King very little joy on the tennis court, thanks in particular to a serious injury to his right knee. Suffice it to say, the 40-year-old Swiss has only made 13 official appearances in 2021, picking up nine wins and four losses.

The round of 16 at Roland Garros and the quarter-finals at Wimbledon were his best results of the season, a very modest record for a legend of his caliber. A few weeks after the Championships, the Bâloise legend announced that he will have to operate for the third time in 18 months.

If there are no more setbacks, the 20-time Grand Slam champion will return to the Laver Cup, which takes place at London’s O2 Arena in late September. Through his Twitter profile, former ATP number 4 James Blake expressed his admiration for the Maestro.

Blake opens up on Roger Federer

“I’m still shocked by some of the things Roger Federer did,” wrote James Blake. Former Australian tennis star Lleyton Hewitt has been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Hewitt talked about his matches against Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. “I feel lucky to have been able to play with different generations. I was able to be on the same court as my heroes that I looked up to, like Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras, and then go on and face three of the greatest tennis players that our sport has never seen, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic,” said Lleyton Hewitt.

“The Hall of Fame seemed like something so far removed from me. It was never something I thought about as a player, and it was always, I thought, for the people who were my idols growing up and the absolute legends of the sport,” Hewitt said.

Roger Federer will return to the Swiss Open after withdrawing from all Grand Slam tournaments. Djokovic is still kicked out of tournaments due to his vaccination status.

The Serb missed the Australian Open and will soon miss the US Open if the situation remains unchanged. Nadal signed up for the ATP 1000 event in Canada and was spotted training on the hard court in Mallorca.
