Forgotten by Ségur de la Santé, social workers at Toulon hospital are mobilizing

At the entrance to Sainte-Musse hospital, a banner, on which we can read “upgrading of resuscitation caregivers” dangling. Like tired.

But on this Tuesday morning, June 15, it was another category of health system personnel who, at the call of the FO and CGT unions, demonstrated in front of the Toulon hospital center.

One month after the murder of their colleague Audrey Adam, shot dead in Virey-sous-Bar in the performance of her duties, the social workers are fed up and they let it be known.

For Karine Le Meur, one of some 40 social workers at the Toulon-La Seyne intercommunal hospital center, thirty years of service, this tragedy was the “water drop”. Especially since the social worker from Aube was not entitled to any national tribute [sur décision du président Emmanuel Macron, Audrey Adam va finalement être nommée au grade de chevalier de la Légion d’honneur].

“We have never been applauded in the evening at 8 pm. We know that we are not recognized, as invisible. However, since the start of the pandemic, we have always been present in the various departments of the hospital to welcome patients and their families. Without us, the hospital would be shut down “, she explains, while distributing leaflets in front of the Toulon establishment.

An investment at all times, very poorly rewarded in their eyes. Proof: “When it was necessary to award bonuses to nursing staff, we were entitled to the smallest. More symbolically, the SNCF offers free interregional transport to all nursing staff, but not to us”, denounces Karine Le Meur.

For social workers, the sidelining has lasted long enough. While Act II of the Ségur de la Santé is being held, they claim to be associated with it and “a real recognition of their professions”.

At 11:30 am this Tuesday morning, social workers will also meet at Place de la Liberté in Toulon as part of the civil service mobilization day.
