for the Ostia collective, “the struggle continues”

The activists of Ostia met the mayor Claude Olive, this Wednesday, July 20, in the afternoon. They informed him of several of their demands, in particular the taxation of second homes, the abolition of traditional home ownership, or the increase in the number of social housing units. If the construction of the Hauts de la Chambre d’Amour residence by the real estate developer Robert Alday is a private initiative, the occupants blame the mayor of Anglet for signing the building permit.

A meeting with the mayor was organized

On Tuesday July 19, the activists had organized a rally in front of the town hall of Anglet in order to challenge the mayor of the city. About sixty people were present. During the demonstration, the occupants became aware of a complaint filed by the co-ownership of the building on Avenue Guynemer, resulting in immediate eviction.

But despite the meeting with the mayor of Anglet this Wednesday, the standoff is not about to stop. “He did not reconsider his decision. Mr. Olive repeated that Anglet was an exemplary city in terms of social housing, and that the construction of a luxury residence like that of Les Hauts de la Chambre d’Amour was an exception, says Matias Libier, an activist from Ostia. He adds: He remains convinced of doing very good things for the inhabitants of Anglet, but we are building more and more, and the Angloys still cannot find housing”.

” We stay “

Despite the risk of immediate eviction by the police, the occupants do not intend to dismantle the tents and fold the sleeping bags. Two police officers went there this Wednesday, July 20 in the afternoon, which did not prevent the activists from renewing their wish to stay in the garden of the residence. “Our decision concerning the sequence of events was taken prior to this expulsion notice”, made a point of specifying Matias Libier.

“The struggle continues”, in the words of the activist. Thursday, July 21 will be organized by Ostia, at 5 p.m., a rally in front of the offices of Robert Alday, located avenue de Maignon, in Anglet.
