Criticism of full classes in Offenbach

The Jusos support an open letter from the Theodor Heuss student body.

The Offenbach Jusos are calling for further measures to be taken in schools because of the corona pandemic. As the SPD youth organization reports, it supports an open letter from students at the Theodor Heuss School who are afraid of being infected with Covid-19 and are calling for smaller classes. “We show solidarity with the students and also demand better measures at schools,” says the former city school spokeswoman and Juso chairman Hibba Kauser.

While otherwise a distance of 1.50 meters would have to be maintained, students and teachers are expected to hang out with people from sometimes more than 30 households. In addition to her studies, Kauser works at two primary schools. “There are too many people in a confined space for too many hours,” she criticizes.

Meanwhile, the state parliament member Nadine Gersberg (SPD) criticizes the black-green state government.

It makes a change model in schools impossible, criticizes Gersberg in a message. The Ministry of Culture actually stipulated that the city’s health authorities could decide for themselves when the so-called Corona escalation level 3 takes effect, which makes it possible to halve classes and teach with a time delay.

However, the Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) stipulated that level 2 must be applied throughout Hesse.

Gersberg believes that this decision “is completely unreasonable” and calls on the state government to follow the recommendation of the Robert Koch Institute and to enable the changeover model from a seven-day incidence of 50.

The Jusos are calling on the magistrate to put pressure on the state government – also with regard to the digitization of schools. The students continued to wait for the digital devices promised by the state.

In addition, it must be ensured that every student has a working Internet connection. The proposed change between face-to-face and distance teaching would be “the best compromise at the moment” for the Jusos.
