For Jane Fonda, the United States Supreme Court has become a far-right cesspool

The news caused a tidal wave of indignation around the world. This Friday, June 24, the United States Supreme Court revoked Roe v. Wade which guaranteed the right to abortion in all the states of the country. Many politicians, Internet users and celebrities expressed their anger following this decision, in particular Jane Fonda, who has just granted an interview to the Monde.

This Sunday, June 26, the American actress and renowned feminist activist returned to the French newspaper on the end of this emblematic case law, recorded in 1973, and said she was “sick”. Beyond disgust, Jane Fonda believes that the Supreme Court “has lost all credibility”, even adding that it would have become “a cesspool of the far right”.

The activist says she hopes this major change in the country’s politics will push many American women to the polls for the midterm elections next November, to strengthen the progressive movement.

While this revocation could well make women want to join a state that still guarantees access to abortion, or even leave the country, Jane Fonda does not intend to pack her bags. “Some people asked me if I was thinking of staying in Italy,” she told the Monde. “If I was young, I would think about it.
