The 50 kg World War II bomb found during construction work was defused without incident and the residents affected by the evacuation were able to head home before one o’clock in the morning.
In the first assessment of the explosive ordnance clearance service, the area had to be evacuated immediately in order to defuse the American-made bomb as quickly as possible. The residents of Frankfurt who were affected once again responded to the request to evacuate very responsibly. Due to the design and condition of the bomb, the security authorities had to react quickly.
A care center was set up in a fast food restaurant on Hanauer Landstraße. Those affected could stay there and were cared for.
All the necessary measures were taken under the leadership of the Frankfurt Public Order Office, with the participation of the explosive ordnance clearance service from the Darmstadt Regional Council, the Frankfurt Fire Department with full-time and volunteer staff, as well as the city and state police.
