The US ambassador has never deviated from her priorities – connectivity and fight corruption
Hero Mustafa has been working with three prime ministers for 3 years in Bulgaria. This is part of the balance sheet for the expiring term of the American ambassador to Bulgaria. On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden nominated Kenneth Merton as her successor.
She landed in our country on October 16, 2019. And immediately became popular not only because of her very interesting biography, but also because she first showed her human face – a mother of two daughters and a wife who happily prepares her husband’s favorite foods. Then everyone appreciated her undeniable professionalism as a diplomat. Following the maxim that a person learns all his life, in his first days in Bulgaria Her Excellency, who speaks 9 languages, including Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, Greek, began intensively with lessons in Bulgarian. In an interview with Nova TV, she said that the first Bulgarian word she learned was family.
Hero Mustafa has never deviated from the priorities he announced to the US Senate – connectivity, cooperation and the fight against corruption. It is most clearly demonstrated by two examples – the ambassador focused her efforts on the implementation of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnection, and in her time, for the first time, the United States imposed sanctions on Bulgarian citizens under the Magnitsky Act.
Her stay with us was a test of flexibility. And she endured it – she worked successfully with 3 prime ministers – Boyko Borisov, Stefan Yanev and Kiril Petkov.
He also showed empathy, especially during the pandemic. In addition to engaging in various charitable causes to help hospitals, she has repeatedly
expressed his gratitude to the Bulgarian doctors
With unobtrusive security, Hero Mustafa could be seen with his family on playgrounds in downtown Sofia. But he also traveled tirelessly around the country, enjoying exploring cultural landmarks, meeting new people and making friends. And he was happy to share photos on Facebook. And it became clear from them that she liked Bulgaria – whether she would visit the Sofia Library or the Rila Monastery, or learn to make a pie and dance.
On a tour of the Sofia Botanical Garden, Hero Mustafa revealed that
its name means a kind of flower,
and in Bulgaria we call it rose.
Her stay will be remembered with the replacement of the old residence at 18 Veliko Tarnovo Street in the center of the capital. In 2020, Hero Mustafa moved in with her husband Ravnish Garg and their two daughters, Ariana and Ashla, at their new home in Boyana.
