The Ifab announced in a press release that it “agreed to set up a protocol which will be used for replacement tests for concussion”, a major subject of concern for the health of the players.
However, Ifab reiterated that “more research will be necessary before proposing a change in the laws of the game”.
“FIFA has shown particular interest in trying out the men’s and women’s football tournaments at the Olympic Games in July 2020, while other competitions may also take part in these tests,” the statement added.
Temporary or permanent replacements have already been introduced in rugby, but an increasing number of players have also called for them for football.
“If there is any doubt, the player must be kept off the field, and the coach must have another possibility and know that he can make another substitution,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who attended the GA of Ifab.
“We have often been criticized for our slowness (on this subject), now we are moving forward, we are testing and we will see”.
The Ifab also said it was ready to review the rules of offside “to promote the spirit of the offensive game”, after the almost weekly recriminations in the English championship where several goals were canceled for tiny differences detected by the VAR.
The general assembly of the Board will conduct consultations with all the actors, its group of technical advisers and the group of advisers on football, before considering adaptations. (AFP / nxp)
