Liverpool FC sends its employees on short-time work, making use of the government’s emergency program. The Reds around coach Jürgen Klopp are currently receiving massive criticism – even a huge shit storm!
–
“I am amazed that Liverpool is taking advantage of this government measure,” tweets club legend Didi Hamann. The “Furlough” program was not created for this. “This contradicts the morale and values of this club as I have got to know them.”
–
In the case of short-time work or compulsory vacation, said program is intended to guarantee employees 80 percent of their salary up to CHF 3,000. However, these funds are primarily intended for small businesses that are threatened by the corona pandemic. And not for a football club that, in the case of Liverpool FC, recently posted an annual profit of almost CHF 50 million.
–
An affected employee told the BBC: “The club calls its employees family. I don’t feel like a family member! » He was seriously “disappointed” by his club, which has millions in sales – and is now abusing the program.
–
«Respect and benevolence lost»
Jamie Carragher, Hamann’s long-time team-mate, describes Liverpool’s approach as “poor” and says: “Jürgen Klopp showed compassion for everyone at the beginning of this pandemic (…), now all this respect and goodwill has been lost.” Stan Collymore, who played 63 games for the Reds in the 90s, says: “I don’t know any Liverpool fan who is anything but disgusted.”

Where’s Liverpool’s role model? A week ago, Klopp warmed many hearts when he spoke of his tears in the face of the willingness to sacrifice of many helpers. Captain Jordan Henderson (29) is at the helm of a Premier League star movement that organizes financial aid. (ebo)
