In early April, football icon Ronaldinho (40) was put under house arrest after 32 days in Asuncion. Instead of living in a barren cell, the Brazilian now lives in a four-star hotel – in return, he and his brother Roberto Assis deposited a deposit of around CHF 1.6 million.

Since then, Ronaldinho has become quiet. But now he breaks his silence. “I never thought I would get into a situation,” he told ABC Color. «The prison was a hard blow. I always pray that things will go well and that hopefully this will be over soon. »

On March 7, Ronaldinho and Roberto Assis were arrested after traveling to Paraguay with counterfeit identification the day before. “We were completely surprised to learn that the documents were not legal,” said Ronaldinho. “Since then we have been working with the judiciary to clarify the matter. We did everything that was asked of us. »

“I’m very grateful”
His time behind bars was difficult, but «I was very friendly with everyone I met. I have felt the warmth, affection and respect of all Paraguayans since day one. I’m very grateful.”

The two-time world footballer (2004, 2005) did not lose his radiance even years after his glorious career. His signature is also a hit in jail. «Playing football, signing autographs and taking photos are part of my life. I have no reason to stop. Especially not for people who are going through a difficult phase at the same time as me. »

And what’s next with Ronaldinho? He will probably be under house arrest for months, but reveals what he will do first as soon as he is a free man again and in his home country of Brazil: “Give my mom a big smack.” (say)
