FOK.nl / News / Grand jury is suing Netflix for ‘obscene’ scenes in the film Cuties

Netflix is through one grand jury indicted in Tyler County, Texas for promoting lewd footage of a child in the controversial film “Cuties.”

Several members of the Congres had already written a letter to Attorney General Bill Barr asking to sue Netflix for ‘child pornography’, and a petition was started by the organization Enough is Enough to start an investigation and possible prosecution for ‘child pornography’.

Netflix has caused quite a stir in recent months with their decision to air the award-winning French film “Cuties”. In this film a group of 11-year-old girls dance provocatively, the comparison with child pornography was quickly made.

Netflix is accused in the indictment posted on Twitter last Tuesday ‘to promote the deliberately immoral visual material of a child, where the images have no literary, artistic, political or scientific value’.

Netflix, which has now lost more than 2.5 million subscribers, defended its decision to release the movie “Cuties” (also known as “Mignonnes” in French), arguing that the film is meant to be a statement against the sexualization of young children. Netflix does acknowledge that the behavior of the young girls in “Cuties” is inappropriate, but that would be the result of today’s failing society.

The film, written and directed by Maïmouna Doucouré, centers around an 11-year-old Senegalese Muslim girl Amy (Fathia Youssouf), who lives in a poor area of Paris. Amy becomes fascinated with a group of rebellious girls in her high school who mimic social media dances and dress sexy by wearing crop tops and high heels. They talk about influencers, practice twerking and giggling about guys and sex-related things that they don’t understand given their age. Doucouré has explained that the film was inspired by her own life experiences growing up as a refugee girl trapped between two cultures, describing the film as a criticism of the sexualization of children.

According to the magazine Rolling Stone the charges against Netflix would be the result of ‘voting’ by supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory, this far-right group has been circulating the rumor for months that film companies promote pedophilia and child trafficking, a belief that is being adopted by more and more people.
