The guards of the archaeological area of the ancient quarry in Aswan managed to kidnap people while they were digging next to the statue of Ramses II in an attempt to steal it.
Dr. Abdel Moneim Saeed, general supervisor of tourism and antiquities in Aswan, said that he received a report from the guards of the archaeological area in the old Aswan quarry and that as they went through the area, they found people digging and moving beside to the statue of Ramses II.
The defendants were placed in custody, the Tourism and Antiquities Police were notified, the necessary report was issued, the Public Prosecutor’s Office was notified for investigations.
