Focus of covid-19 in Sintra home with one dead and 26 infected

The Vale de Lobos home, in Almargem do Bispo, municipality of Sintra, registers a total of 24 users and two employees infected with the new coronavirus. One of the elderly with covid-19 died on the 25th.

Last Friday, 16 users and two workers tested positive for covid-19, advances to JN the councilman with the responsibility of Health of the Chamber of Sintra, Eduardo Quinta Nova.

Previously, between June 2 and 18, other tests had been tested eight positive users, increasing the total number of cases in the home to 26. On the 25th, the first death was recorded.

Sintra Town Hall tested 88 people, 54 users and 34 workers, from the Vale de Lobos home, “despite the recommendation of the health authorities to only test symptomatic people”, explains Quinta Nova.

“We understand that whenever there is an indication of infection they should all be tested and this is what we did when we learned that there were four more users with covid-19. We insisted with the health authority to do more tests and agreed that we would test them all. If we didn’t these tests, these people, who were asymptomatic, continued to be a chain of transmission to others “, he warns.

In relation to the most recent cases detected, the 16 users and two employees will be confined to one of the three floors of the home and the municipality will provide more personal protection suits to this unit. “The home lacks facts. Tomorrow, Monday, we are going to raise more in our municipal services and provide them to guarantee all security conditions”, he guarantees.

The councilman believes that the new cases in the Vale de Lobos home will be related to the lack of definition and the resumption of home visits. “I realize that people miss their families a lot, but as long as this situation is not overcome they should avoid visits, because they may be taking the virus into the home”, he considers.

The Government’s performance in these situations has led to an increase in criticism by some municipalities. The Mayor of Cascais, Carlos Carreiras, a few days ago, in statements to the JN, said that “there is a need for greater articulation between local and central power, which in some cases has not existed”.

“The ministries of Social Security, Health and Internal Administration have not had a coordinated intervention. At the level of local authorities, each one has been doing what he knew and could, listening to the recommendations that came from the Directorate-General for Health and the World Health Organization , who were not always coherent. When a mayor has a faster response capacity than the Government itself and without coordination, everything gets more complicated “, criticized Carreiras.
