IIn the US state of Florida, a police officer was suspended from duty after he arrested two six-year-olds in a school. The case is being investigated, the police said. The arrest of the two children sparked a new debate in the US about the massive police presence in US schools.

According to the police, the two arrests took place last Thursday in Orlando. In one case, the police arrested a six-year-old student after she had kicked another person in school. The police officer is also said to have handcuffed the children.

According to the information, however, the student was taken back to school after her temporary arrest because the police officer did not get permission to transfer the girl to a juvenile prison.

The other six-year-old child, however, was temporarily taken to a youth prison, according to police. The police driver is said not to have known that there was no authorization to transfer the child to the facility.

In view of the case, the heavy police presence in schools is being discussed again in the USA. Due to several fatal firearms attacks in US schools, the number of police officers who are supposed to protect students and take action against violence and drug abuse on school grounds has risen sharply in recent years.

A police officer is on duty at least one day a week at 46 percent of all state schools in the United States. The stationing of officials is controversial in the USA.
