Flight Attendants Demand Better Working Conditions and Safety Measures at AUA Company Meeting

While unsuspecting self-proclaimed “experts in everything” on social media criticized the AUA staff, sometimes at the lowest level, because they exercised their guaranteed right to a works meeting, at Vienna Airport Schwechat in a room in Office Park 3 in the presence of union representatives ( vida) invited around 700 pilots and flight attendants to a company meeting that was held and announced in accordance with the law. The mood among the flying staff is not the best. In addition to a wage that is barely enough to live on for many flight attendants, the workload is extremely high. However, especially in a sensitive area like aviation, a high workload can quickly lead to overload and thus have negative consequences for flight safety.

In addition to the financial aspect, requests for improvements in working conditions were also discussed, which ultimately correlate directly with flight safety.

For example, an end to the “blocks of 6” in the duty rosters was called for, as was a maximum duty time of 12 hours per day and a maximum of 4 legs per day. The flight attendants also complained that management did not take feedback seriously. An inflation adjustment was also called for, which must be accompanied by a real wage increase. An additional flight attendant was also required for Boeing 777 flights – which would significantly reduce the workload for each individual cabin crew member.

AUA recently suffered from a shortage of flight attendants because numerous flight attendants left the company during the peak of the corona pandemic and shortly afterwards. Last year it became known that a number of flight attendants had to take on part-time jobs because their salary was not enough to live on – Austrian Wings reported.
