The end of the 26th round of the Brasileirão further heated the mood in the quest for the coveted national title. That’s because Atlético-MG, momentary leader of the tournament, blamed the referee for not finding it easy to beat Santos 3-1, last Wednesday (13). Managers of the Minas Gerais club even kicked the VAR room door and accused the professionals of “thieves”. The attitude was questioned by Rodrigo Dunshee, general and legal vice president of Flamengo, who demanded an attitude from the STJD.
The red-black leader used social networks to clarify which types of punishments can – and should – be applied in cases such as Atlético-MG. Also according to Dunshee, the home club is responsible for providing due security to refereeing professionals during a match.
“When the host club does not provide security for the arbitration work, when they invade or try to invade the room where video arbitration is practiced, the consequence can only be one: loss of field command and severe punishment of invaders/aggressors. Let’s wait for the STJD”, wrote Rodrigo Dunshee of Abranches.

Rodrigo Caetano, football director at Alvinegro and responsible for kicking the VAR’s room door, also touched on the past between the club from Minas Gerais and Flamengo: “It took four penalties for two to be scored. We just want to have criteria, we always defend the VAR. If there was a VAR in the 70s and 80s, Atlético would have other titles in its collection”, he said.
While Atlético-MG fights for the second national title in history, which by the way hasn’t won for almost 50 years, Flamengo is following in the tail in search of the ninth in its history – and the third in a row of the current squad. There are 11 points that separate the teams, with Mais Querido still having two games postponed to play and the direct confrontation with the miners.
