Flacq hospital: Death of a 36-day-old infant

– Staff at Flacq hospital suspect a case of malnutrition

Police are awaiting the findings of the post-mortem report to establish what to do next following the death of a 36-day-old boy. The baby died at Bruno Cheong hospital on Monday evening in Flacq, while he had been under observation at the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit since December 4. Health workers noted that the baby was showing symptoms of malnutrition.

At this point, police do not know if it is a baby’s own problem that is causing his malnutrition or if his parents were not taking care of him. The latter, residents of Quatre-Soeurs, were contacted by the police to give their version of the facts today.

According to our information, the parents had told the nursing staff that the little one refused to eat and that his health had deteriorated. Reason why they had rushed him to the hospital. At this point, investigators are unwilling to make a conclusion on an alleged case of negligence, preferring to wait for a medical examiner’s report. No track is ruled out at this stage.
