The police has arrested five young people who are suspected of multiple acts of violence and assault in and around Cuijk. The suspects are between 14 and 18 years old.
The police received signals that young people from Cuijk and the surrounding area were beaten, kicked and threatened without cause. “From that moment on, a youth group came into the picture that caused a lot of nuisance. The group consisted of about ten young people between the ages of 14 and 18. Most of the young people came from Cuijk or surrounding villages,” said the police.
Some members of that group are said to be responsible for assaults between August and October last year. This week a 14-year-old boy from Cuijk, a 17-year-old boy from Haps and two 18-year-old men from Cuijk were arrested. Today a 17-year-old boy from Cuijk was arrested. The police are not ruling out more arrests.
‘From bad to worse’
A spokesman for the police tells us Broadcasting Brabant that there were already signals last year that a group was drifting “from bad to worse”. “It started with wantonness, it soon became open violence and assault. Those other youths of the group did not commit any criminal offenses, but they did cause nuisances such as intimidating and antisocial behavior, hanging around, shouting and wantonness.”
The five suspects have been heard. Some of them have already confessed.
