Diversity: a little more feminine and colorful workforce at Apple

A little more feminine and a little more colorful staff: this is the portrait trained by Apple on its Inclusion and Diversity web page. The manufacturer has updated its statistics on the subject (there was nothing in 2019) and things are progressing slowly. At the end of December, out of a total of 160,000 employees, there were 34% of women (+1 point compared to 2019, +4 points compared to 2014, the first year of the series).

In the United States, 47% of Apple employees are white, a figure that is down 8 points from 2014 (-1 point from 2019). The workforce is more of Asian origin (27%, +12 points / 2014), Hispanic (14%, +3 points / 2014) and African-American (9%, +2 points / 2014).

Apple emphasizes a few statistics: more than 60% of Apple Store employees come from under-represented communities (more than 50% in the United States for management positions). Overall, the number of employees in these communities increased by 64% compared to 2014, or more than 18,000 people. The number of African-American employees in the United States has increased by more than 50%, and by 60% for managerial positions.

Also in the United States, the number of employees from Hispanic minorities has exploded by 80% in six years (and 90% for positions of responsibility). The number of female employees worldwide has increased by 70%, and by 85% for management.
