Five secondary schools close their doors because the education is substandard. This concerns five of the eight branches of the national educational institution Schools for Personal Secondary Education (Pvo), which focuses on small-scale education. The inspectorate had previously ruled that there was financial mismanagement at the institution.
Two of the schools are forced to close their doors by the inspectorate. This concerns the branches in Utrecht and Kapelle. The schools in Amsterdam and Hoorn are also performing below par, but have decided to stop as of August 1.
The school in Hengelo will also close because they expect to attract too few students. Three other branches of the educational institution will remain open.
The inspectorate has concerns about the pedagogical climate at the school in Utrecht, writes RTV Utrecht.
Students from the school in Kapelle contribute Broadcasting Zeeland to be disappointed with the closure. “This school is my home, we are not just a number here. My teachers know me inside and out. I know my classmates. That is something that is very difficult to find at other schools,” said a pre-university education student.
Suitable solution for students and staff
Outgoing Minister Paul for Secondary Education says that there has been close contact with the Pvo board and the municipalities involved.
A suitable solution is being sought for the students and staff. “It may differ per school what that solution will look like and that is why customization is needed,” says Paul.
