Five reasons why Bolaños are a good Start signing

The ability to create goal points on my own is just one of the reasons why I am looking forward to Cristian Bolaños’ return to Start.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the former Start hero Cristian Bolaños is leaving Saprissa and signing for Start with a contract that will probably extend for the first time this year.

Here are some of the reasons why I think this is a good signing for Start right now.

1 Routine

Start has a team of many young and inexperienced players who desperately need someone to steer them in the right direction. In Bolanos you get a player with 86 international matches for Costa Rica, including three World Cup finals, 30+ Champions League and Europa League matches for FC Copenhagen, games in the CONCAF Champions League for Saprissa and Cancouver Whitecaps FC and the World Cup for club teams for the parent club sin.

2 Right edge in 4-3-3

Bolanos is a versatile player, but he thrives best in a right-wing role in 4-3-3, something he has played a lot of throughout his career. That includes most of the matches for Saprissa this season.

Start has for a number of years struggled to find the right man on the right wing. Many have tried, but we have not had a points anchor on the right wing since Espen Hoff and Ernest Asante ravaged several seasons ago.

Kasper Skaanes, Mathias Bringaker and Kevin Kabran have all tried on the right wing, but no one has managed to claw their way to a permanent place or delivered enough goal points.

3 Ability to create goal points on your own

Start has really gotten used to their defense, but has struggled to score goals lately. After Tobias Christensen disappeared to Molde, they have lacked a player who can open up the defense with a sparkling pass or slam the ball into goal from long range. Admittedly, Kabran and Schulze have both shown better qualities lately, but in Bolanos, Start gets a guarantor of goal points.

He has turned 36 years old, but stands with 24 goals and seven assists in 51 games for Deportivo Saprissa in the 2019/20 season, where they have played in both the domestic league and the CONCACAF Champions League.

4 Knows Norwegian and Scandinavian playing style

With seven years in Scandinavian football, including a year and a half in the Start and Elite Series, Bola knows the Scandinavian style of play well. There will be no challenges in getting to know the new surface, routines and tactics. He should be able to slip right into the team, which is a big advantage with so few games left.

In addition, it is reported from Costa Rica that he is in the shape of his life at the moment.

5 Enthusiasm

After some heavy seasons and a crisis start to this year’s elite series, the start needs all the enthusiasm they can get. Even at the age of 36, this is a signal player, an old cult hero, who is guaranteed to get the southern audience to get involved again. Even if we do not get to fill up the stadium, you can see that it has already exploded on social media, and Start is left in the wind.

Although we are still in a bad position at the table, the fans are now looking positively at the remaining season. In addition, he will also be able to have an influence on the many young players in Start, where probably several of them had the pleasure of watching Bolaños ravage for Start the last time he was here.

Just look forward to him getting ready to play.
