Fitbit wants to develop algorithm to detect coronavirus | NOW

Fitbit is going to ask users in the United States and Canada who have the coronavirus or the flu to provide details of their symptoms, the company reports on the website. The information must be used to develop an algorithm that may be able to recognize the coronavirus at an early stage.

The questionnaires for North American users are an extension of research that is already taking place. The answers to questions are given to researchers along with other Fitbit data and medical data.

Fitbit called on users in April to participate in the surveys. The idea is that wearables monitor a lot of information about the daily life and health of users. This raw information can provide insights other than data collected in a laboratory setting.

The company collaborates with the non-profit organization Scripps Research and Stanford University for the studies. Fitbit wearers in North America can sign up for both studies.
