First unmanned Albert Heijn’tje opened in the company canteen of the office | Economy

Albert Heijn is opening the first unmanned version of an AH to go in an office building today. According to the supermarket chain, coffee machine company Pelican Rouge in Dordrecht has the scoop. At least a hundred locations are planned in the Netherlands this year. At least 25 will be opened in Belgium.

Albert Heijn announced at the end of last year that it wanted to open mini-supermarkets in office buildings. Today it is the turn of the first twenty office locations, including RWE in Eemshaven and Crocs in Hoofddorp. To this end, the company works together with Selecta, the Swiss company behind the unmanned mini-supermarket Foodie’s. About twenty of them already had a similar destination as Foodie’s, which are being converted. The other locations are new.

The corona pandemic means that employees come to the office a lot less often, but Albert Heijn does not see that as a problem. “This concept fits in well with the changing function of the office. The office may become less the place to work and more the place to meet and work together, ”says a spokeswoman.

Albert Heijn sees the mini supermarkets as an addition to catering. According to the retail chain, many companies are looking for flexible solutions and customization for both small and large groups of employees.
