Morris Garage (MG) started a business in Indonesia selling imported cars. Two cars have been introduced, namely MG ZS and newest MG HS. Will it be assembled locally?
“Until now we are still assembled in Thailand, meaning we are still CBU (completely build up / import intact from) Thailand. We continue to see the market, if there is tremendous demand for our products Morris Garage, in the long term it (assembly) is something. that has been planned, “said PR & Marketing Director of MG Motor Indonesia Arief Syarifudin at Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, Thursday (13/8/2020).
Regarding local assembly, Morris Garage itself can still take advantage of the remaining unused production capacity of the Wuling factory. The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) once said that the number of cars imported by MG was not more than 50 units.
As is well known, Morris Garage is a British car brand that has now been purchased by a Chinese automotive company, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). SAIC has started a business in Indonesia through a subsidiary company SGMW Motor Indonesia (Wuling Indonesia). Will Morris Garage ride production at the Wuling factory?

“In the long term, what I have said is not impossible for an assembly or factory here. We have thought about it. It depends again, there is a good enough demand that we will serve it.” said Arief.
“From long ago, before MG released ZS, we had coordinated it well (with the principal),” said Arief.
“I need to emphasize here that Morris Garage or MG Indonesia is an independent entity. So we stand alone, not under anyone. To answer that question (using Wuling’s factory facilities), that’s a different matter,” he explained.
