The first people in Schleswig-Holstein are to be vaccinated against Corona today. Vaccinations by mobile teams start in care facilities, especially for people with dementia.
Around eleven months after the first corona infection became known in Germany, the first vaccinations begin today. The first around 10,000 vaccine doses arrived in Schleswig-Holstein yesterday. This morning they were distributed to three vaccination teams initially with a slight delay. According to information from NDR Schleswig-Holstein, the teams in Lübeck and southern Schleswig-Holstein will be on the road. Seven additional teams, each consisting of two paramedics and a doctor, are to cover the rest of the country. As the Ministry of Health announced, the mobile vaccination teams are initially concentrating on residents and employees of old people’s and nursing homes. Hospitals are also given vaccine for employees who are at high risk of infection.
Health Minister Garg happy about the start of the vaccination
In Lübeck, Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) and Health Minister Heiner Garg (FDP) also want to speak about the start of vaccinations today. After the delivery of the first vaccination doses to Schleswig-Holstein, Garg was optimistic: “I am glad that the first vaccination doses are now in Schleswig-Holstein and that we can start vaccinating. This is the beginning of the most important part of fighting the pandemic. Also if we still have months ahead of us, which will continue to demand a lot from us, the prospect and chance of more normalcy gives hope and confidence. “
Further vaccination doses come after SH
In the next few days, a total of around 48,000 doses of the vaccine from the companies Biontech / Pfizer should arrive in Schleswig-Holstein. From the end of the year, according to the Mainz company Biontech, the northernmost state will be entitled to 24,375 vaccination doses per week, depending on the population.
When the first people are allowed to come to the vaccination centers
The first 15 vaccination centers are expected to start on January 4th, one per district and urban district. A total of 29 vaccination centers should then be ready for use. Nursing staff who work for inpatient care facilities or for outpatient care services, as well as employees of emergency services and people over 80 years of age, can get vaccinated first. Dates for this will be assigned from December 29th – via the website impfen-sh.de or by phone on 116 117. According to the Ministry of Health, the visit to the vaccination center should take about 45 minutes – including the time for medical advice and follow-up observation.
Those who cannot go to the vaccination center have to wait
People over 80 who are cared for at home and cannot go to vaccination centers will be vaccinated at a later date. “Due to the special storage and transport requirements of the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine, vaccination at the doctor’s or at home is not possible at the moment,” explained the ministry.
