A fireworks bomb was set off at a house in Amsterdam last night. The window and frame of the house are badly damaged. The resident was unharmed.
The fireworks were pasted against the window of the house around midnight. It is not clear who did this and for what motive.
The resident has lived in the house in Amsterdam-West since 2011. Against city channel AT5 he says that almost every day he is bothered by local residents who berate him for his sexual orientation. “I no longer dare to live alone. I get called names and as soon as I call the police, they are gone.”
The man is very shocked by the fireworks bomb and has reported it. “My dog and I were half a meter off it,” he says. “I was lucky that there were curtains and blinds in the window, otherwise this might have ended badly.”
Daily verbal abuse
The police say they take the matter seriously. “We take the fact that you are sitting quietly in your home and something like this can happen very seriously.” It is being investigated whether there was homosexual violence.
In Amsterdam, many reports of violence against gays have recently been made. In the Eastern district, residents hoisted a rainbow flag around them last month show solidarity.
