It gets hot – and stormy: Summer starts with a good humming into the weekend!
Heat, heavy rain, hail, flash floods – Germany has to prepare for a violent thunderstorm for the weekend.
The German weather service (DWD) does not rule out “extreme storms” in the next few days and describes the current weather situation as “swampy”: Means: There is little dynamism in the weather kitchen, the moist air mass is bobbing away. And weather expert Dominik Jung vom Weather service Q.met even warns that tornadoes could form locally!
“You can really feel the sultry on Friday. There are first thunderstorms from Hamburg down to Dresden on Friday evening, it will be more violent from Saturday afternoon. Thunderstorm back in a line from Hamburg via Hanover, Magdeburg to South Saxony, ”says climatologist Dr. Karsten Brandt from donnerwetter.de opposite BILD.
The problem is that little wind means little movement during heavy rain. In some places it can rain extremely, little happens a few streets away. The following applies to all of Germany: be prepared for heavy rain and thunderstorms.
“The thunderstorm situation at the weekend is really dangerous locally,” says meteorologist Jung. “Everyone should watch the weather warnings carefully. Otherwise there is a lot of sun and an oppressive sultry. ”
“There is a risk of storms at the weekend. On Saturday there are strong thunderstorms in warm, humid air. These can be accompanied by heavy rain, hail and gusts of wind. Locally, high amounts of rain can come together, as the thunderstorms sometimes shift slowly. So there is a risk of flooding, ”says meteorologist Stefan Zender from WetterKontor to BILD.
And tornado expert Thomas Sävert from unwetteragentur.de says: “On Saturday there can be widespread thunderstorms, some of which can be violent, some with heavy rain, hail and local storms. The risk of tornado increases with the thunderstorms. ”
The outlook for the next few days
▶ ︎ Friday: Up to 30 degrees on the Rhine, values of 23 to 29 degrees are achieved in the rest. Occasional clouds and showers only in the north and east.
▶ ︎ Saturday: Sultry, along the Rhine up to 32 degrees, in the east sometimes up to 33 degrees, locally violent thunderstorms form, sometimes with torrential rain, hail – and occasional danger of tornado formation.
▶ ︎ Sunday: Sultry warmth, 20 to 30 degrees in the east, especially strong thunderstorms in the north and east.
The coming week also starts very warm: Monday and Tuesday 24 to 30 degrees, Wednesday even warmer – but with local showers and possible storms. Dominik Jung: “A lot of warmth, a lot of heat, but there is always rain, that becomes a tropical feeling.”
