Firefighter seriously injured responding to crash in Manhattan

A firefighter was seriously injured Sunday afternoon while responding to a car accident in Manhattan, the FDNY reported.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. as firefighters were trying to stabilize vehicles involved in a two-car crash at West 42nd Street and 11th Avenue.

The FDNY said the two cars, a BMW and a Volvo, were on top of each other.

As firefighters tried to “prompt” the car on top of it and pull out the people inside, “the driver of one of the vehicles stepped on the accelerator causing the car to fall and pinning down Firefighter Ryan Warnock who was underneath,” he said. Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh.

Firefighter Warnock was taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious but stable condition and is being treated for injuries to his leg, according to the FDNY.
