Wiesbaden – Because of Corona everything is different this year. The end too!
The pandemic is ruining the usual New Year: contact restrictions, curfews, no alcohol in public, ban on firecrackers.
Here is an overview of the corona rules for New Year’s Eve in Hessen.
Are there contact restrictions on New Year’s Eve?
YES! A maximum of five people from two households are allowed to meet in public. Associated children (up to 14 years of age) are not counted. For private celebrations at home, compliance with the rules is “strongly recommended”.
Do night exit restrictions apply?
YES! Nobody is allowed to leave their home between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. without a valid reason. Affected districts: Bergstrasse, Limburg-Weilburg, Waldeck-Frankenberg, Main-Kinzig, Gießen, Darmstadt-Dieburg, Offenbach.

Is it allowed to drink alcohol outside on New Year’s Eve and New Year?
NO! In Wiesbaden there are even stricter rules: there, alcohol can no longer be sold outside from the early evening.
Can fireworks and firecrackers be set off?
The sale of fireworks and firecrackers is prohibited, you are not allowed to boar everywhere. In Frankfurt and Offenbach there is a ban on fireworks for large areas within the city. In Kassel, fireworks are prohibited in the Karlsaue, the area around the Orangery Palace and Wilhelmshöhe Palace and the Kassel landmark Hercules. Also in the districts of Groß-Gerau, Kassel, Gießen and Main-Kinzig it is not allowed to shoot.

Is compliance with the rules checked?
The police and the public order office have announced checks in popular public places. Violations of the curfew may result in a fine for an administrative offense, the amount is determined by the districts themselves.
