There are no indications that the deadly fire was ignited in a flat in Vlissingen. That is the conclusion of the police after investigation. A 64-year-old resident was killed in the incident on Thursday evening and several people were slightly injured.
Of brand the house was reported around 8.50 pm. During the fire, the flames burst out of the house and a lot of smoke was released. Some 22 homes were then evacuated.
Residents of 20 apartments cannot return home yet. They must first wait for the police investigation. Only when that has been completed can the housing association l’Escaut Woonservice take up and repair the damage. Its residents will probably only be able to return home after the weekend.
It is not yet known what caused the fire. The security region is on late Broadcaster Zeeland know that the investigation into the cause is still ongoing.
