Lemgo. Anyone who provides first aid at the scene of the accident will in future be informed by the Lemgo fire brigade about the statutory accident insurance, which automatically comes into force in such a case. Because: Regardless of whether the first aider works for someone else on vacation, in their free time or at home – anyone who is injured is insured, the fire brigade records in a press release and thus encounters a supposed knowledge gap. The automatic insurance is less well known than the duty to help.
This is why the volunteer fire brigade now has the relevant information cards from the Unfallkasse Nordrhein-Westfalen on board the emergency vehicles in order to clarify possible first aiders on site. The whole thing should also have a positive effect on the number of those who actually step in when a need arises.
“Anyone who helps a person in need shouldn’t have to worry that he or she will be left alone with damage afterwards,” emphasizes Mayor Markus Baier. “Civil courage and active commitment are important for our social interaction, especially in an emergency.” Therefore, not only the statutory accident protection, but also the uncomplicated information about it via cards is “the right signal,” Baier continues. The protection provided by the accident insurance covers physical damage, but also damage to property and psychological consequences.
“The deployment of first aiders before the rescue workers even arrive can be decisive and is very important to us. It starts with a call to 112 “, adds fire brigade chief Klaus Wegener. In addition to the cards, the volunteer fire brigade has flyers with information about insurance cover ready in several languages. All of the materials were made available by the Unfallkasse NRW for distribution.
