Wolfgang Wittenburg, Finkenwerder. The new Finkenwerder fire station is to be built on a site in Aluminumstrasse.
The ravages of time have gnawed at the fire station built in 1957 on Benittstrasse. The 63-year-old guard no longer meets modern requirements. An extension is not possible on the small property. The Wache Benittstrasse is also not ideally located in view of the new industrial parks and changed traffic routing. A new building is needed.
The location chosen was an area in front of the town entrance on the Genter Ufer. But nothing will come of it, as the Senate announced at the request of the Finkenwerder member of parliament Ralf Neubauer (38, SPD). The background is “difficult property conditions, among other things due to questions about freedom from ordnance.”
But where should the new fire station go? The Hamburg fire brigade has been working for around ten years to have a new, modern fire and rescue station built in the Finkenwerder district. Now that the city of Genter Ufer is no longer an option, an area in Aluminum Street has now been looked for.
“We are in the design phase. The aim is to create a multifunctional hall with many more than six gates, ”says Lars Vieten, spokesman for the Sprinkenhof AG responsible for building police and fire stations in Hamburg. Negotiations are currently underway with the HPA as to whether the site should be bought or leased.
Construction may already start in a year, something that lawyer Ralf Neubauer, who has been living on Finkenwerder with his family for around two years, is pleased about: “Fortunately, the Finkenwerder fire brigades have to extinguish fires relatively rarely. But of course we would like to have a modern, well-equipped fire station just in case, so that the helpers can be on the scene quickly. “
The station on Benittstrasse is to be retained and will continue to be used by the fire brigade.
