He found that a total of 2573 cases of Covid-19 were detected last week, which is only 4.6% more than a week earlier. By comparison, the epidemiologist noted that the trend in cases detected last month was about 45%, reaching as much as 60% in a single week.
Thus, Perevoshchikov predicted that if the same trend was observed next week, the increase in morbidity would stop.
The epidemiologist explains the decrease in the morbidity rate with the implemented precautions and restrictions, which have thus proved to be effective. The decline in the morbidity rate, due to the introduced restrictions, is also observed elsewhere in Europe.
According to an SPKC expert, there is currently an increase in morbidity in half of the 30 European countries. Meanwhile, the increase in morbidity in the remaining 15 has stopped, while in some cases the morbidity is declining overall.
Although the incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia continues to increase, it is currently the lowest among the Baltic States. In Lithuania, the incidence is the highest, exceeding that of Latvia by three times. In Estonia, on the other hand, it is only slightly higher than in Latvia.
“Unfortunately, we still see the proportion of positive cases rising, but very slowly,” the epidemiologist said, noting an average of 6.8% last week, a slight increase.
It has already been reported that 457 cases of Covid-19 were detected in Latvia last day, while another 13 patients died, according to data compiled by the SPKC.
