Final US Election Results Announced: Historic Biden Gains in Georgia | NOW

The final election results in the United States are known. Joe Biden has been named the winner in Georgia, making him the first Democrat since Bill Clinton in 1992 to credit the state’s sixteen electors. The last state to count votes, North Carolina, was attributed to incumbent President Donald Trump.

Biden has amassed a total of 306 electors, more than enough for the next presidency. This required 270 electoral votes. Trump brought in 232 electoral votes.

This year it took longer than usual for a result to appear. A winner was only declared on Saturday, while residents already went to the polls on Tuesday.

The delay is partly due to the corona crisis. Many people voted by mail to avoid long lines at polling stations, but the ballots are more difficult to verify. There were also states where postal votes were not yet allowed to be counted before election day. In addition, the turnout was much higher than in previous elections.

Georgia announced on Wednesday that a recount would follow in the state because the differences between Biden and Trump were small. In other states, such as Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona and of course North Carolina, the candidates did not differ much from each other, which meant that they waited a long time for a result.

Biden’s gains in Georgia are not the only notable results in the US election. On the night from Thursday to Friday, he was also declared the winner in Arizona, a state that since 1996 had not been won by a Democrat.

Trump still doesn’t recognize Biden’s election win

Trump still hasn’t admitted his loss. Instead, the current president filed numerous lawsuits against multiple states alleging widespread electoral fraud, Trump argues. He has not provided any evidence for that claim.

A lawsuit against the Arizona state election results was dropped by his campaign team on Friday. There would have been flaws in voting machines, but they would have affected “only” 191 voters. Trump lost by a difference of more than eleven thousand votes.

Incidentally, the withdrawal of the lawsuit does not mean that there will be no subsequent lawsuit. “The campaign team continues to consider President Trump’s options in Arizona,” said a spokesman.
