Final End of Iconic GTST Character? Ludo Sanders is pronounced dead | Show

Good times Bad Timescharacters and the sea, it’s a mysterious combination. Just take the other iconic character from the Netherlands’ most popular soap: Martine Hafkamp. She once disappeared in a boat at sea, remained missing for years before making her comeback again. Finally she disappeared again – into the sea.

Ludo Sanders’ comeback should have a better plot, because after a light scuffle with grandson Valentijn, he fell overboard. Police searches were unsuccessful and were discontinued. Next week (and for viewers of Videoland this week) the storyline will reach a climax. The Sanders family will have the pater familias declared dead. Before that even Bas Muijs (Stefano Sanders) makes his comeback in the series.

The possible death of Ludo is not the first in a storyline GTST. For example, in season sixteen (2005-2006) he was accidentally shot by his wife Janine Elschot with real bullets during a murder game. Then the viewer and the residents of the fictional village were also told that he had died. Nothing could be further from the truth. With an ultimate act of revenge in which he had several Meerdijkers kidnapped and nearly drowned, he returned and found out who had switched the bullets.

Is it now the end of story for Ludo Sanders? It’s hard to imagine. GTST is in a difficult period in terms of viewing figures, in which much is being renewed to win back the spectators. Just then the death of perhaps the most popular soap character ever in the Netherlands would be striking.

The presence of Caroline de Bruijn (Janine) in the series also makes a definitive exit unlikely. De Vogel and De Bruijn, who are also love partners in real life, said they would only leave the soap if they would do it together.
