Liverpool and Merseyside Police issued a joint statement condemning some celebrations that did not take into account the city’s social spacing after the Reds won the league title for the first time in 30 years.
“Over the past week, the club, the police, the city council and the Spirit of Shankly organization have reminded people that the region is still affected by the Corona virus, and that they celebrate the Coronation of Liverpool safely,” the joint statement said.
“But thousands of people celebrated in the Pierre Head area on Friday, and some of them chose to ignore social estrangement and public safety,” he stressed.
The statement continued: “Our city is still in a public health disaster, and this behavior is unacceptable.”
“The risk of a second peak of the virus is still present, and we must not erase everything we achieved as a city during the general closure,” he added.
“When it becomes safe, a procession for the team will be organized for everyone to celebrate, and until that time, the safety of the city and people should be the priority,” the statement said.
