Fifteen suspected members of an Eastern European mafia arrested

Fifteen men suspected of belonging to the criminal organization “Vory” (thieves in the law) were arrested. They are suspected of hundreds of burglaries and other misdeeds in France, notably in Eure-et-Loir, Guainville and Villages-Vovéens.
“Vorys are easy to identify. They are mostly tattooed with symbols for their membership in the criminal organization. Drawings representing a Virgin, a snake around a dagger, a crucifix, domes, a rose window or even a cross”, explained, Friday June 24, a source close to the investigation which led to the arrest, between 16 and 30 May, of these fifteen men from Eastern countries.

multi-delinquency gang

The Central Office for the Fight against Itinerant Delinquency (OCLDI), led by General Marc de Tarlé, has put an end to a journey of several months of one of the alleged “tentacles” of a mafia composed of Armenians, Moldavians and Georgians.

The “Vory” are multi-card criminal gangs: racketeering, cigarette smuggling, extortion, theft of vehicle and boat engines, theft of GPS from agricultural tractors, theft of jewelry or luxury watches… “This red mafia is very dangerous . The motif of the tattoos is a language that notably defines the criminal itinerary of its wearer,” insists the source.

214,000 euros seized

This justifies the mobilization of the national jurisdiction in charge of the fight against organized crime (Junalco) and the OCLDI to track down these structured, discreet, hierarchical networks, provided with false identities and very well organized in their raids, with a logistics effective, secret accounts in foreign countries.
Simultaneous dragnet
In May, the French authorities succeeded in agreeing with their counterparts in Romania and Moldova, in order to carry out a simultaneous raid with French departments.

During the search, the investigators seized 1,700 cartons of cigarettes, more than 500 kg of tobacco and more than €214,000 in cash and in bank accounts.
The arrest of nearly thirty people suspected of belonging to this criminal organization from Eastern European countries, in nine years, shows how difficult it is to identify, locate and arrest them.
