FIFA wants to allow a temporary increase in the number of substitutions per team to five during the Corona crisis. FIFA has asked the governors of the International Football Association Board (Ifab) to decide on this as an urgent matter.
Changes should be made in three windows
According to the proposal, a team should be able to replace five instead of three players in the regular season until the end of the season that is still interrupted. There should be a total of three windows for substitutions per team. This is done with a view to the effects for the players due to the expected tight schedule, if the game operation should be started again.
The Ifab decides on fundamental changes to the rules of world football. With eight seats, the four British associations England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each have one vote, Fifa four. In the corona crisis, the Ifab had previously decided that competitions could still be completed with the rules of the 2019/20 season. Normally, rule changes would have come into force on June 1, 2020.
