FIFA freezes transfers to France for one month (media)

Dakar, July 1 (APS) – The International Football Federation (FIFA) has asked the Professional Football League (LFP) of France to limit the transfer period of players to twelve weeks, with a break to observe from July 9 as of August 10, reports the French sports daily L’Equipe.

“FIFA authorizes the LFP to split the transfer period in two, but it refuses a period longer than twelve weeks for national transfers, this will therefore force the French transfer window to pause for a month, from July 9 to August 10 “, writes the French newspaper in its edition this Wednesday.

Unlike the other football leagues, notably in Europe, that of France shortened its season and started its summer transfer market on June 8 to allow its clubs, which are very dependent on sales, to balance their impacted finances. by Covid-19.

The French Football League will therefore, due to the recommendation of FIFA, open a first transfer period, from June 30 to July 9, then a second (eight weeks), which will be closed on October 5, the scheduled date for closing transfers, explains L’Equipe.

“If October 5 is confirmed (the end of transfers), the French market could reopen around August 10,” added the newspaper, adding that negotiations can continue, and a player signing a contract with a new club during the break .

“But he won’t get his license or international transfer certificate until August 10, which means he won’t be able to play with his new team,” the newspaper said.

This directive is not valid for players at the end of the contract.

The suspension of transfers has been criticized by the French clubs, who regret that at the same time, the other championships (Germany, England, Spain and Italy) will continue to trade.
