The football club has been polarizing for as long as RB Leipzig has existed. The Arndt family has already had to experience this. The six fans have traveled to almost every RB Leipzig away game since they were promoted to the Bundesliga in 2016. In the Ruhr area, the rejection of the Leipzig team is particularly great. An example: rapper MIKI – he is also a big fan of Borussia Dortmund. Many of his songs are about BVB and football. However, one of his most successful singles is a Anti-RB Leipzig song. It has over two million views on Youtube.
“Welcome to hell. The Bundesliga hates you,” reads one of the lines. In the video, a RB Leipzig fan is kidnapped by masked men and then tortured with waterboarding. “Because you’re shit. Bugs. Plastic.” MIKI, who makes music part-time, recorded the song together with other rappers from other cities. They say: RB only exists to advertise the drinks.
About the drastic violence in the video, MIKI says that they used the exaggeration as a stylistic device. “Because if you just say: ‘RB is stupid’, nobody will hear it.” So people were shocked and many looked. “This has become our most successful thing.”
