A US federal judge ruled that Fca, now part of Stellantis, will have to pay one millionaire fine after the admission of guilt by the auto market giant, accused of corruption. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has decided to settle, and will now be required to pay 30 million dollars.

The FCA leaders admitted to having paid some bribes to union leaders United Auto Workers, in order to obtain important advantages negotiations which involved the renewal of the contract of thousands of factory workers.

The American division of Fiat Chrysler will also be subject to external monitoring for the next few years, with a commissioner who will assess compliance with the labor laws and the effective implementation of internal controls, and the closure of the National Training Center of Detroit, a training center run with the union.

The leaders of the UAW involved in the administration of the pole admitted during the process that they had received more 3,5 millions dollars in cash and luxury items over a period of approximately 8 years.

It would be the head of labor relations who set the complicated bribery plan in motion along with at least five union leaders. One of them would also have had his mortgage paid off 262 thousands dollars with FCA money.

The survey was made public in 2017, and led to 15 convictions, including three against some managers of the giant cars, which is officially committed to adopting new policies and guaranteeing the legality of its work.

The judge Paul Borman defined the nature and circumstances of the crime as very serious. According to the investigators it would be one of the biggest violations of the Labor Management Relations Act, which has definitively undermined workers’ trust in union representatives and company bargaining processes.

Fca was born in 2014 from the merger between Fiat and the Chrysler Group, and also included the car brands Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati, Abarth, Jeep, Dodge, Ram Trucks, Mopar, Srt and the multi-sports company Sisport. On January 16, 2021 it merged with Groupe Psa, giving life to Stellantis.
