BRATISLAVA – FC Copenhagen football players secured their place in the round of 16 of the Champions League. The Danish champion in the squad with defender Denis Vavro was moved further by the 1:0 victory in “A” over Galatasaray Istanbul. Manchester United lost to Bayern Munich 0:1, finished last and will be without European cups in the spring.
In Tuesday’s program, attention was mainly drawn to the A-group, from which three teams could advance before the final round – Copenhagen, Galatasaray Istanbul and Manchester United. The Danish champion welcomed Galatasaray, and in the event of a triumph, it would advance to the spring round of 16 for the second time in the club’s history.
Copenhagen started actively and Peter Ankersen could have sent the hosts into the lead in the 8th minute, but he narrowly missed the left post with a cross shot. The teams were aware of the importance of the duel and the spectators watched the tactical battle. In the 58th minute, the home team showed a quick action on the left side, Elias Achouri found an uncovered Lukas Lerager in front of the goal, who opened the score of the match.
It was Lerager who was sent off in the 90th minute after the second ŽK, and the visitors had the advantage of one player. Galatasaray had great chances at the end, but could not get the ball past goalkeeper Kamil Grabara. However, the Turkish team finished third in the table and will play in the elimination phase of the Europa League.
United in the spring without cups
United were at the bottom of the table with four points and needed to win against the certain winner “A” Bayern and hope that the duel in Denmark ends in a draw. “Bavarian” had more of the game in the first half and created three chances, but faltered in the end. The favorite of the duel took the lead in the 71st minute, when Kingsley Coman broke free in the penalty area after a mix-up by the guests and beat goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Manchester couldn’t equalize in the next phase, on the contrary, Harry Kane could have increased it even more. The English representative thus remained in the last fourth place of the A-group and will not appear in European competitions in the spring. The reigning German champion did not lose a record 40 duels in the LM group stage and only drew in four. The last time he failed was on September 27, 2017 at Paris Saint-Germain (0:3).
